The road so far.

Gukesh D learned the game in Chennai, the city Viswanathan Anand comes from, and became a grandmaster at twelve. In 2023 he passed Anand as India’s highest-rated player, ending a run of 37 years.

In December 2024 he won the title match against Ding Liren in Singapore by 7½–6½ and became, at eighteen, the youngest undisputed World Champion in the history of the game. In Geneva he defends the title for the first time.
